Luz. Written production activity

The following activity will be about working the written production and it will be the consecutive activity of the London picture I have post before in the blog. As it is a continuous activity, the level will also be framed in a 3º ESO class and we only are going to need 5 minutes to explain it because it is conceived as homework - we exploit the lesson time to make oral practice and some other active aspects and the rest of stuff is homework.

The activity will be based on the decision they will have to make: London or Dublin as the destiny of their final school trip. Previously, they have already done a brief oral debate in class after having done all the previous activities. Then, they will have to make a choice between these two options and once they have already decided, they will have to write a 200 word composition giving strong arguments and opinion to support their final election.

With this writing, the students are going to practice comparatives and superlatives in a very realistic way, in addition to tourism and travel vocabulary.

In this way, this composition is going to have a very clear objective and purpose: they are going to strongly express their will of going to London or to Dublin, explaining their reasons. The composition is going to make a change in their direct lives and hence they are going to work harder writing this essay.

To adapt this activity to a harder level, it can be proposed the written composition plus a short presentation with the maps of both cities, suggesting a route to make in case one of the cities they have chosen is elected.

  1. I insist, you make quite a lot of mistakes, you really must make an effort to revise all your writing before you hand it to the students. It is a good idea to link the class activity to a real choice (the final DESTINATION, not destiny). It will certainly give them a reason to write.
